Available in 1.3, 2.1 and a black 1.2 gain version, the company’s proprietary technology prevents color shifting and sparkling in a manner that has already been declared best-in-class by reference calibrator
W. Jeff Meier in his June 2014 AccuCal Projection Screen Material Report
Ames, IA – August 19, 2014 –
Seymour-Screen Excellence — the made-in-the-USA brand best known to date for its luxurious, reference-grade acoustically transparent 4K film screens — is rounding-out its offerings with Ambient-Visionaireâ„¢, a proprietary ambient light filtration technology that the company claims is the most advanced to ever reach the market.
The Ambient-Visionaire is a solid screen surface, comprised of billions of nano-mirrors, dithered at the desired viewing angle, and layered so that side light (from any direction) will be absorbed by carbon particles and the substrate.
”By shrinking the reflective elements down to less than 1/10th the smallest size visible by the human eye, the screen cannot create a discrete sparkle,” says Seymour-Screen Excellence Managing Director Chris Seymour. “They are so small and dense, that a 16K resolution pixel would have over 300 mirrors to itself; a 4K pixel would have nearly 5,000. With this more efficient method of selectively reflecting the projected image versus ambient light, the screen offers the reference quality color uniformity that Seymour-Screen Excellence is known for without exhibiting any color shift, sparkles or ringing – all issues that have plagued performance of ambient light-rejecting film screens.”
Ambient-Visionaire Silver Series
To satisfy a wide range of installation applications, the Silver Series consists of both 2.1 and 1.3 gain versions. The Silver 1.3 was reviewed and declared best-in-class by W. Jeff Meier in his June 2014 AccuCal Projection Screen Material Report. Meier is considered by many in the industry to be a leading reference calibrator. The AccuCal report can be read here:
Ambient-Visionaire Black Series
Using the same aggressive combination of carbon particles and stacked, dithered nano-mirrors along with a deep black background that absorbs 90% of ambient light from any direction, the 1.2 gain Black produces a 12x improvement in contrast ratios in environments that are otherwise unsuited to front projection use, even outdoors.
The Ambient-Visionaire screens are available in sizes up to 130-inches wide (141-inches diagonal) in 2.37 aspect ratio and 100-inches wide (115-inches diagonal) in 16:9 aspect ratio. The surface of both the Silver and Black series feature a durable finish that can be wiped down and cleaned with common household cleaners including rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits.
While manufactured in Seymour-Screen Excellence’s Ames, Iowa production facility, the Ambient-Visionaire line is also available outside of The Americas through partner Screen Excellence, located in the UK.
”The response to Ambient-Visionaire from dealers, reps, calibrators and press has been extremely enthusiastic,” says Patrice Congard, Seymour-Screen Excellence partner. “Chris Seymour has done a phenomenal job – certainly his background as an engineer has been quite influential in the development of this special screen surface. I am quite confident that Ambient-Visionaire will be a catalyst in our joint-venture taking an even stronger foothold in the home theater channel.”
