Wild bear forces temporary shutdown at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

The bear was safely captured and transported without incident

It wasn’t Baloo or Winnie the Pooh, but a different bear that caused sections of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom to temporarily shut down on Monday. An adult black bear was spotted in a tree on the park’s grounds, forcing park officials to close down nearly a dozen rides on the west side of the park, including the areas Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square.

In the early afternoon, NBC affiliate WESH of Orlando’s helicopter captured footage of agency officials capturing and transporting the bear on a white tarp. Not long after, The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission provided an update that “Bear Management Program and FWC law enforcement officers” were able to capture the adult female black bear without incident.

“In most cases, it is best for bears to be given space and to move along on their own, but given this situation, staff have captured the animal and are relocating the bear out of the park to an area in or around the Ocala National Forest,” the agency said. The FWC added that the bear was most likely foraging for food to prepare for hibernation ahead of the coming winter.
