It was revealed earlier this year that a new Universal Studios theme park would be coming to Frisco, Texas, part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Now, the Dallas Business Journal is reporting that Universal has selected global architecture firm Gensler to design the park.
According to sources familiar with the project, the park is reported to be a $550 million endeavor that will feature shows, rides, restaurants, and a 300 room hotel. The park itself is said to include multiple themed “lands” that are based on Universal Studios properties. Gensler is well positioned to handle the project, as, in addition to having ample theme park experience, hired Disney’s former head imagineer at the beginning of this year.
While a representative for Gensler declined to officially confirm the firm’s involvement, sources close to the project say that the park is one part of the Fields development, a project that spans over 2,500 acres of land that will include two PGA golf courses, thousands of residential properties, and the PGA of America’s headquarters.
