Sennheiser reveals new flexible wireless microphone system

The Profile Wireless can be used as two clip-on mics, a handheld mic, or desktop mic

Sennheiser has announced a new product that aims to be a versatile audio tool for videographers. The Profile Wireless is a two-channel wireless microphone system that can be used as a clip-on mic, handheld mic, or desktop mic.

The Profile Wireless is composed of a charging bar, mini-receiver, two clip-on transceivers with built-in microphones, and a slew of adapters that allow the receiver to connect to a computer, mobile device, or camera cold shoe mount. Interestingly, the charging bar itself can double as a desktop or handheld microphone by attaching a transceiver and windscreen, which gives some flexibility when clip-on mics are not ideal for the situation.

The Profile Wireless’ receiver features an OLED touch display that automatically orients itself not matter which side is facing up, while both it and the clip-on transceivers operate on a 2.4 GHz signal, and have a range of 800 feet with a clear line of sight, and a range of about 490 feet if there is any obstruction. Each clip-on mic has 16 Gb of internal memory, with Backup Recording and Safety Recording modes that are designed to save recordings if signal becomes too weak, as well as to protect against clipping. Each transceiver also includes a lockable 3.5mm connector if you’d like to use an external microphone instead.

Sennheiser says that the Profile Wireless will begin shipping next month, and is available now for preorder for $299.
