Aerosmith announced earlier this year that the band has officially retired from touring, and now the legendary rock band’s time as the face (and voice) of Disney’s Rock ‘n Roller Coaster is also coming to an end. Opened in 1999 at Disneyland and 2002 and Walt Disney World, the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has always featured Aerosmith as the ride’s visuals and soundtrack.

Disney has confirmed that Aerosmith will be replaced by The Muppets, in conjunction with Jim Henson’s creations leaving their own attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The company announced that Muppets Courtyard and MuppetVision 3D will be closing, to make room for a new Monsters, Inc. area. This doesn’t mean that The Muppets will be leaving Disney entirely, as they will be the new residents at the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.
“We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster,” Disney said in a statement posted to Disney Parks Blog. “Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”
There’s no word yet on when Aerosmith is set to depart or the new ride version is planned to open, but fans have been urged that the end of this year may be their final chance to take a ride with the legendary band.
