Activist pulls stunt by climbing to the top of the Las Vegas Sphere

Perpetrator identified as an activist with history of illegal stunts

It was only a matter of time. A man was arrested Wednesday after climbing to the top of the 366-foot Sphere in Las Vegas. Images quickly circulated the web of a tiny silhouette of a man dwarfed atop the giant venue.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police began receiving calls of the man climbing around 10 am. Shortly after, authorities issued a statement, “We are responding to reports of an individual scaling a building near the 200 block of Sands Avenue. Please avoid the area due to emergency vehicles responding.”

The daredevil was taken into custody upon reaching the top of the Sphere, and was later identified as Las Vegas native Maison DesChamps, an activist who calls himself the “pro-life Spiderman.” DesChamps, who has a history of illegal climbs, posted a video to Facebook of the climb, saying he did it in an effort to raise money and awareness for a pregnant woman who is homeless.

Shortly after the suspect was taken into custody, Sphere Entertainment released the following statement: “We are grateful to the local authorities for their support in this matter. The individuals involved are currently in the custody of LVMPD.”
