CEDIA has developed a new level of certification for technicians who have a year or more of experience. The exam will be unveiled at CEDIA Expo 2009.
The EST II Certification was designed to fill a need for a level of professional certification between beginner and advanced. The qualifications for an EST II Certified Technician are as follows:
- Has been working in the field for a minimum of one year and is interested in low-voltage residential installation career advancement
- Knows the appropriate devices, their purpose, and where the devices fit into the system
- Works under supervision to complete component installation and knows how to read construction documents and complete the proper reporting documents.
Students interested in obtaining this level of certification will first need to take the EST II Pretest Assessment, which will be available at www.cedia.org/certification in August 2009. Students can elect to take CEDIA's new course, EST200: Electronic Systems Technician Workshop, to prepare them for the EST II Certification exam. EST200 will also be available at CEDIA Expo 2009 in Atlanta.
After completing EST200, students are encouraged to continue preparing for the EST II exam by taking additional 200-level courses from the CEDIA University EST College. Courses are available online through CEDIA University e-Learning, in both webinar and on-demand formats, at www.cedia.org/education/elearning.
The exam will be available first in the Certification Online Testing Center at CEDIA Expo 2009. To download the expo registration brochure or to register for this exam, visit www.cedia.org/expo.
