2007 CEDIA Electronic Lifestyles Awards Entry:
Best Large Home Theater, Level II: $98,500 - $115, 000

The client desired a simple-to-operate home theater with one remote to control audio, video, shades, and lighting. Floor jacks were requested for game-system controllers along with two rows of seating. The client envisioned a theater that had practical acoustical treatments and was very stylish. The final design incorporated everything in a fashion that enhanced the home-theater experience.

The rear wall of the home theater is made up of floor-to-ceiling windows. A full-blackout motorized shade, controlled through the user interface, can be lowered for daytime viewing. We had to design the rear soffit of the theater to remain 12in. away from the back wall to allow for the motorized blackout shade. The handheld RTI T2-C was chosen for its ease of use and our ability to customize this project for intuitive control.

The front left, center, and right in-wall loudspeakers were placed behind an acoustically transparent screen. Surround and surround-back loudspeakers were installed in-ceiling to provide 7.1 audio. Denon auto-calibration ensured an awesome listening experience at each seating location. Proper room ventilation was accomplished through a dedicated zone for the A/C system, with return air duct and multiple supply ducts.

As far as calibration, the out-of-box picture of the Sony projector was admirable. Only minor adjustments were made by our technicians.
