Close your eyes and imagine a basement filled with boxes, cobwebs and unused exercise equipment. Now imagine that same space as a magnificent home theater with cozy leather seats, DLP projection and a 100in. screen. The skilled crew of Massachusetts-based Percy's made such an amazing transformation possible.
The home theater room that Percy's designed and installed is located under the family room in the basement of the client's home. The equipment was set on a stand in the closet under the stairs that go to the first floor, providing easy access for all the wires and connections, plus plenty of ventilation.
Wiring the theater was easy since the room was completely made of wood studs. The studs framed out the door entrances on both sides leading into the theater from the basement bar area. Black fiber optics was installed in the ceiling with the fibers coming through the sheet rock.
After wiring was complete, the fixed 110in. Stewart VeLux screen was mounted on a front wall with the Sharp DLP projector hanging from a short pole in front of the back soffit. Then, the sound system was installed. The in-wall side and surround speakers were placed behind acoustic fabric panels that are broken up by columns that look like marble due to the painting process. The front in-ceiling speakers were hidden also due to the painted soffit that they sit in. The two powered subwoofers (one in the front side wall and one in back side wall) give the big bass the client's were looking for with easy installation since they are accessible from a side room.
All the equipment is located in a closet under the stairway located just before you enter the theater room. DVDs can easily be put into the player before you enter room. The homeowner can easily access the DVD movie or high-definition cable channels via the handheld LCD touchscreen remote.
