3D Video Projectors

This month, SVC showcases a variety of 3D video projectors suitable for a range of applications, including consumer home theater, as well as commercial uses for research and development, science and exploration, museums, architecture, gaming, and entertainment.

Barco has just released its first commercially available 6P laser-illuminated projector. This laser projector is a compact 60,000-lumen projector with the first DCI-compliant laser that is capable of showing 4K content at 60fps and 3D movies in full 4K resolution, according to the company. The laser technology is paired with Dolby 3D color separation technology for use with custom Dolby 3D glasses. The glasses match the six primary laser light wavelengths of the Barco Laser 3D system to produce an immersive viewing experience. Barco received a special US-FDA variance for this projector, which does not require all the compliancy required for typical laser light shows.

The BenQ SX912 DLP projector features 5000 lumens, a contrast ratio of 11,000:1 and has a 1024x768 native resolution. It supports full HD 3D and can display an image up to 300in. diagonally. It houses two HDMI inputs, two 15-pin PC inputs, an RGB monitor output, component video inputs, an S-Video input jack, composite audio and video inputs, a set of audio pass-through jacks, a microphone input, two USB Type-A’s, RS-232 and RJ-45 ports for control. It has built-in 5W speaker and is compatible with Crestron RoomView, PJ Link, and AMX for remote management over Ethernet. The unit features a filter-free design and employs BenQ’s SmartEco technology to minimize power consumption and maximize lamp life.

Casio’s XJ-H1750 is the XGA model within the company’s professional line of projectors. Rated at 4000 lumens and using a 0.7in. DLP chip, the XJ-H1750 features a laser/LED “hybrid” light source that allows for an estimated operational life of 20,000 hours. Zoom (1.2X) and focus are both manual, and up to 300in. images can be created. Its native aspect ratio is 4:3. Input connectivity amounts to two 15-pin RGBs, one HDMI, one S-Video, and one set of L/R and composite video RCAs. An RGB output is available to pass video through and a 3.5mm audio output. There is an RS-232 port, one USB-A, and one USB-B. It is networkable via an Ethernet jack or can be networked wirelessly using a USB adapter. The XJ-H1750 is 3D and whiteboard ready, meaning that, paired with any flat surface and an optional digital pen device, presentations can become dynamic and interactive.

Christie Digital offers a 3-chip DLP projector suited for a diverse set of applications from entertainment to industrial with its HD6K-M. It achieves a 6,600-lumen rating and employs dual 200W lamps. The contrast ratio can be electronically adjusted between 2500 and 10,000:1 to create just the right image for the setting. It has a 1920x1080 resolution. The unit features control over Ethernet, RS-232, RS-422, and USB, and can also be interfaced with via a provided IR remote control or a LCD keypad housed on the left side. Input jacks can be defined by the user through the 6K’s use of input module slots. By default, the first two slots are populated with dual-link DVI-D and VGA ports. Additional options include analog BNC, dual SD/HD-SDI, twin HDMIs, and video decoder input cards.

Digital Projection’s HIGHLite Laser WUXGA 3D is the world’s first and only laser projector. It is capable of more than 20,000 hours of projection from a solid-state illumination system in lieu of a traditional lamp. This minimizes lifetime TCO of the unit. It throws 10,000 lumens and has active 3D capability. Video signal inputs include dual HDMI 1.4 jacks, one dual-link DVI-D, Ethernet, 3G-SDI in and out, VGA, BNCs for component video, and RCA connectors for composite video. Communications and control are managed via a 9-pin RS-232, Ethernet, USB-A for servicing, 3D Sync in and out over BNC connectors, and three 3.5mm jacks for a wired remote and 12V trigger.
