Just One Touch Video & Audio Center
Just One Touch Video & Audio Center created a movie palace blending the style of 1920s Art Deco with streamlined modern touches. The Just One Touch client wanted to create a replica of the famed Los Angeles-based Wiltern Theatre in the basement of their home. The family of five loves to entertain. They wanted a room worthy of their guests and complementary to the rest of the estate.
As a showpiece for their home, the client came to Just One Touch with three requirements: unparalleled sound and picture quality, impeccable craftsmanship, and ease-of-use. By lowering the basement floor an additional three feet, the installers were able to accommodate stadium-style seating for 14 people. They were also able to move the back and left side walls to optimize the room's size acoustically. Additional side surround speakers were added to the typical 7.1 setup to expand the "sweet spot" coverage of the seating area.
Working closely with the interior designers, the Just One Touch team designed a soffit system to hide the projector and theatrical accent lighting. Motorized curtains open to reveal a custom-painted motorized canvas, which in turn rolls up to reveal the 150in. diagonal 16:9 screen. This setup not only allows for display of the custom artwork, but also protects the screen while the three children use the stage to put on plays for their family and friends. The ceiling starburst features a custom-carved gold leaf sculpture and hand-painted stars. Fabric-wrapped acoustic panels installed between custom-designed columns round out the room's decor and provide the ideal acoustic setup.
The client also wanted to be able to access the home's centralized high-definition TiVo unit, as well as share the DVD management system with the rest of the home. An intricate video distribution network was designed to accomplish this, as well as distribute the theatre's sources to the lounge in the next room. A 10.4in. video touchpanel allows the client to preview movies, satellite channels, and the home's security cameras, and provides simple, one-touch operation for the other members of the family. As the center of a large community of family and friends, the client is now able to present to his guests an incredible theatre experience in a beautiful, elegant setting.
