When we first met with the client, they wanted us to design something very simple. When we walked through the house we couldn’t help but notice the beautiful wood detail throughout. We decided to present two designs to them—one that was simple, as they had requested, and one that was classy and elegant, with lots of wood detail. When the client saw the second design they knew right away that it was a perfect fit for their home.

We wanted to give the room a splash of excitement so we designed a starfield ceiling, mounted in black plexiglass to surround the projector. It is recessed to create depth. The fiber-optic starlight ceiling cycles through a rainbow of colors that dramatically fade into each other.

The room has two tiers, allowing for optimal viewing without obstruction for movie watchers in the back row. The seating is a super soft suede with motorized recline. The wood inlay in the chair arms pop out, providing a place for viewers to put their drinks.

The client did not want to see any speakers or equipment in the room. We accomplished this by using in-wall speakers, camouflaging the grilles to match the wood and paint on the walls. The equipment is housed in the front of the room behind a secret door.

Since we were installing other systems in their house, the client set a modest budget for the home theater electronics. They wanted good quality products at a reasonable price. The InFocus SP7200 projector and Stewart 82in. FireHawk screen produce a fantastic picture. That, coupled with a Denon receiver and Triad in-wall speakers make this room a truly great place to escape the world and watch movies.
