AV integration firm the Whitlock Group announced that co-founder Kévin Thompson will retire after 35 years in the AV industry. Thompson will remain as a broadcast and technical resource to The Whitlock Group, retaining his industrywide reputation for unsurpassed knowledge and innovation, according to the company.
Thompson helped lead the Whitlock Group from being a virtually unknown company in Virginia with less than $3 million in annual sales and 18 employees to become one of the nation's largest privately-held integration and managed services company with more than $130 million in annual sales and over 400 employees in 22 offices nationwide.
Thompson's role with the Whitlock Group began after he created his own company, Atlantic Broadcast Communications, in 1992. One year later, Thompson approached John Whitlock, founder of the Whitlock Group, about the possibility of merging their two companies to form a consolidated broadcast and audiovisual integration firm.
"Kévin helped build a powerful name for the Whitlock Group through his devotion to customer service and his passion for new technologies. His reputation as an industry 'Mad Scientist' enabled the Whitlock Group to be involved in the early stages with many manufacturers as they introduced innovative new products to the industry", said Doug Hall, CEO of the Whitlock Group, in a statement.
"A true believer in the power of each person here to contribute, Kévin also emphasized the importance of teamwork and culture," Hall continued. "He taught us the importance of thanking manufacturers for their support just like we thank our customers. He emphasized humility, though he wasn't shy about asking our partners for aggressive support. Thanks to Kévin, many manufacturers respected us long before our level of business justified the support and attention they gave us. We are thankful for Kévin's many contributions and celebrate his much deserved retirement."
Doug Hall was named CEO of the Whitlock Group in 2007; Roger Patrick is COO; Mark Baker is CFO and Michael Dennis is Executive Vice President. John Whitlock is Chairman.
