NEC Display Solutions of America announced the addition of the 70-inch P701 LCD display for digital signage to its P Series. The commercial-grade display, which joins the 40-inch P401 and 46-inch P461, is designed for 24/7 applications such as airports, public information, health care, rental and staging, boardrooms, and specialty professional applications, according to the company.
The P701 will be on display at the 2010 Digital Signage Expo Feb. 24-25 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas.
Compared to its 65-inch MultiSync LCD6520 predecessor, the new industrial strength display has a 15 percent larger screen surface yet maintains the same low level of power consumption, according to NEC. Along with full connectivity, including DisplayPort and Ethernet connections, the P701 has more than 30 built-in features in its Enhanced Digital Signage Technology Suite, including TileMatrixT, which enables customers to create a video wall of up to 100 displays in a 10x10 matrix. The new display also comes with an ambient light sensor, which automatically adjusts the display according to the amount of surrounding light, and a built-in scheduler, which enables the advanced scheduling of monitor powering up/down. An expansion slot allows seamless integration of NEC and third-party components, increasing the types of environments in which the P701 can be used.
"The addition of the P701 display brings a new size and increased variety to NEC's large-format customers that demand a dependable eye-catching display solution," said Luke Bruschuk, product manager for NEC Display Solutions, in a statement. "Applications that require the utmost in advanced capabilities will want to take advantage of the DisplayPort connectivity, full high-definition resolution and robust panel offered in this P Series display. The rapidly growing digital signage market requires a professional product with an expansive screen size that delivers essential features and consistent efficiency."
The P701 offers a 1920x1080 high-definition resolution, 2,000:1 contrast ratio, and 420 cd/² typical brightness (600 cd/² maximum). It has additional thermal protection and internal temperature sensors for demanding digital signage requirements. Plus, its sealed panel design provides protection against dust, grease, and steam.
According to NEC, the P701 will be available for March 2010 shipment at an estimated street price of $11,799. It comes with a three-year parts and labor warranty, including the backlight.
