Cisco Expands Digital Signage Offerings

At the Digital Signage Show in New York, Cisco Systems announced that it has expanded its partner ecosystem and added new features and capabilities to its Cisco Digital Signs solution, with a focus on the creation, management, reporting, and playback of digital media.

This week at the Digital Signage Show in New York, Cisco Systems announced that it has expanded its partner ecosystem and added new features and capabilities to its Cisco Digital Signs solution, with a focus on the creation, management, reporting, and playback of digital media.

According to the company, Cisco Digital Signs, part of the Cisco Digital Media Suite (DMS), is a digital signage system that integrates management software, network-based media players, and LCDs. Among its new features is the Cisco Digital Media Designer, which provides content creators new layout features meant to simplify developing digital signage content. There is also a new proof-of-play content performance and screen status report.

Cisco officials also said the company's Digital Media Player 4400 Series now supports interactive applications through the use of touch screens, and offer expanded support for wireless transmission as well as music playback over the network-based media player appliances.

In addition, new application program interfaces (APIs) and software development kits (SDKs) allow partners to use Cisco technology to develop digital signage solutions for their customers. The company also introduced Cisco Digital Media Creative Services (DMCS), which can create and transforms asset for digital signage deployment and provide services at each stage of a digital signage deployment, according to the company.

Cisco's digital signage business has grown five times as fast as the industry this past year with thousands of customers deploying around the world," said Thomas Wyatt, vice president and general manager of the Digital Media Systems and Media Processing Business Units at Cisco, in a statement, "We are partnering with our customers to drive innovation across the entire Cisco DMS product portfolio."

That portfolio includes Cisco Cast, a business IPTV solution, and Show and Share, a new social video system that the company says enables secure online video communities for the enterprise.
