Planar Systems introduced the Clarity LED series rear projection videowall displays for applications that require 24/7 reliability and life-like images, such as government, military, energy, utilities, traffic, and broadcast control room videowalls. The new system combines Planar's Clarity NaturalColor for visual performance and solid-state illumination with up to eight times the life of traditional lamps, according to the company.
The Clarity LED Series includes the 70-inch c70HD-LED (1920x1080 resolution), Clarity RP-LED (SXGA+ resolution), and Clarity RX-LED (XGA resolution) rear-projection displays, available in 50 inches and 67 inches. All displays within the Clarity LED Series use DLP technology and are available with Open or Indisys image processing electronic options, said the company.
According to Planar officials, the Clarity LED Series produces a wider color gamut than most traditional lamp-based systems. Clarity NaturalColor uses a proprietary color space that maps a broader color palette to content, for more life-like colors, Planar said. NaturalColor Optimizations are preset, customizable color spaces that are optimized for a range of videowall applications. NaturalColor Optimizations use LED illumination to produce visual experiences tailored for applications such as SCADA, security/surveillance, simulation, broadcast, and collaborative control room.
"This new product series creates a cost-effective choice for a variety of control room applications by providing extraordinary visual performance while simultaneously reducing maintenance and improving the uptime of the video wall," said Gerry Perkel, Planar CEO, in a statement.
The Clarity LED Series' illumination system has a rated life of 60,000 hours. Solid-state LED illumination results in fewer moving parts that could break down and reduces the costs and interruptions associated with lamp changes. The company points out that the LED technology used in the series is also considered more environmentally friendly than other display technologies.
The Clarity LED Series will begin shipping during the third quarter of this year.
