Polycom Wades into Digital Signage
Polycom, known for its conferencing solutions, announced this week what it calls a "comprehensive, standards-based solution combining real-time visual communication, live and on-demand video streaming, digital signage, and network-efficient video content distribution."
Company officials said the platform–a combination of new and enhanced products-- complements its telepresence, videoconferencing, and desktop video collaboration tools. It will allow customers to enhance the unified communication (UC) networks from Polycom Open Collaboration Network partners to support sales and marketing, corporate and project communications, training, distance learning, and customer events.
The overall solution includes the new integrated Polycom Digital Signage, which allows distribution and management of broadcast-quality multimedia content to targeted groups with minimal network impact, according to Polycom officials.
Also new are Polycom Recording Studio, a video production studio that allows customers to bring capabilities in house for creating broadcast-quality live and on-demand content, and Polycom Video Edge, a video content distribution platform for live and on-demand video across the network.
Polycom says the integrated platform also includes high-definition recording and streaming using the Polycom RSS 4000, and video content lifecycle management via the upgraded Polycom Video Media Center. The latter product is for capturing, securing, managing, publishing, and storing multimedia content, with support for Microsoft Sharepoint 2007 websites.
"One of the greatest challenges that organizations face today is ensuring effective communication and collaboration among geographically dispersed teams, customers, partners, and vendors," said Andy Miller, executive vice president of Polycom, in a statement. "[We're] helping customers address these fundamental challenges by enabling them to leverage the power of video communication and collaboration across all aspects of their business."
Company officials said the new and enhanced products for video recording, streaming, and digital signage will be available this month through certified Polycom channel partners.
