The first model in the series will be a pro camcorder with Sony's Exmor CMOS sensor and ClearVid array, for delivering full HD resolution and low light sensitivity with low noise, says the company. The camcorder will record AVCHD up to 24 Mbps, the company adds, delivering 1920x1080 HD images in both interlaced and progressive modes, as well as native 1080/24p, 720/60p, and MPEG-2 SD recording. The camera will include both HD-SDI and HDMI outputs, plus two-channel linear PCM audio capabilities, according to the company.

"Coupled with the latest innovations in lens and sensor design, this new family will offer outstanding picture performance for professional applications, such as event videography, commercial, or corporate video production," said Tatsuro Kurachi, group marketing manager for Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Audio/Video Group, in a statement.

The NSCAM camcorder also shares the G lens used in Sony's HVR-Z5U professional camcorder, and will use a Memory Stick Pro Duo recording media and an optional 128 GB Flash Memory Unit for hybrid recording. This module is removable and powered through a computer's USB connection. The camcorder will also be capable of GPS data capture and broadcast-quality recording, says the company.

The NSCAM professional camcorder is due to be available in early 2010.
