Gefen's new GefenTV 1:8 Multi-Format Video Distribution over Ethernet device offers analog video support and two methods of signal extension in a small footprint. The device is designed for anyone who wants to use their analog video equipment and view the content in multiple locations within the same building using the existing LAN infrastructure, the company says.

When combined with one or more receiver units, the small sender unit accepts connections from four different AV devices using VGA, Component, Composite, and S-vide connections with stereo audio. Video is sent in the VGA or Component format, with audio, and connects to eight displays, TVs, or projectors. Computers, DVD players, VCRs, and other similar devices can also be connected to product.
According to the company, two methods of long-distance signal extension to eight locations make the solution useful for both professional and consumer use. Using one industry-standard Cat-5 cable for each location, the selected source can travel up to 330 feet to eight different displays, each with its own receiver. Additional receivers can be cascaded to create more than eight destinations.
Alternatively, users can integrate the device into any Ethernet network using 100BaseT protocols, says the company. Any display connected to a network can access the selected source connected to the sender unit.
Both methods of extension deliver resolutions up to 720p or 1280x1024, says Gefen, offering scalable, flexible, and convenient methods of audio/video distribution within the commercial environment, home, or office.
