Digital Projection (DPI) rolled out the VIP 3000 warp and blend solution, a multiformat switcher specifically for projection applications. According to the company, the VIP 3000 uses flexible warp and blend capability, high-quality image scaling, broadcast-grade de-interlacing, and high-quality noise reduction and image enhancement technology.

The VIP 3000 includes a variety of digital, analog, and audio inputs; image pan, zoom, and rotation; four-sided, eight-zone image blending for multiprojector applications; and 10-bit black-level correction for matching black levels in non-blend areas. The scaler also features multipoint warp, picture-in-picture, a temporal/film noise filter, and HQV HD video processing.

As a switcher, DPI officials say the VIP 3000 accepts almost all types of analog and digital vide inputs, including HDMI 1.3, DVI, HD-SDI, SDI, Component, S-video, and Composite. One VIP 3000 is used for each projector in multiprojector applications. According to the company, the resizing and pan-and-zoom functions eliminate the need to pre-process or rely on multi-head sources for video or HD content. Multiple VIP 3000s can be Gen-locked.

In data and graphic-intensive applications, such as command and control or process control, a multi-output graphics card could be used to drive multiple projectors and VIP 3000s to form a large, mutlimegapixel display comprised of a matrix of projectors, says the company. In such a case, the VIP 3000 would assure that the color and black level performance of the projectors matched, the company adds. Warp capability can be applied across curved and other non-traditional screen surfaces.

"The VIP 3000 dramatically extends the application capabilities of our projection displays," said Chuck Collins, vice president of commercial AV for DPI, in a statement. "Its superb video processing, image scaling, and precise warp and blend make it a powerful tool for single and multichannel projection applications, for both entertainment and business, on screens of nearly any size or geometry."
