IOGear announced the new GCS1642 Two-Port Dual-View Dual-Link DVI KVMP Switch with Audio. A DVI KVMP switch by name, the new IOGear KVMP (keyboard, video, mouse, peripheral) product does more than share the highest resolution (up to 2560x1600) or widescreen video on two dual-link DVI monitors with support for 3D graphics. It also features two USB 2.0 peripheral ports for asynchronously sharing USB devices between computers, company officials said, while a powered USB hub can be attached to the peripheral ports for added functionality.
Audio and microphone support for sharing speakers and a microphone are also includes.
The GCS1642 uses patented DynaSync technology to remembers a monitor's ideal resolution and refresh rate (EDID), making it possible to boot all computers simultaneously, switch back and forth, and still maintain native video setting for the monitor, according to the company.
IOGear said applications for the GCS1642 include computer-aided design and manufacturing, high-end desktop publishing, graphic design, and video editing. Surgical/diagnostic displays used in medical settings and high-end gaming systems are also suited to the new IOGear device.
The IOGear 2-Port Dual-View Dual-Link DVI KVMP Switch with Audio supports multiple operating systems and 3D graphics. It offers asynchronous hot key switching between KVM focus, USB peripheral, and audio ports, and computer switching via front-panel buttons or hot keys. It's firmware upgradeable.
The GCS1642 is now shipping with an MSRP of $470.
