Front Projector Sales Set Quarter Record
The number of front projectors sold through the professional AV channel, including the business, education, government, and house of worship segments, in the U.S. reached 130,761 units in the second quarter of 2006 ? a 22.5 percent increase over the second quarter of 2005, and an all-time quarterly high, according to the ?Composite U.S. Pro AV Projector Trends? report from Pacific Media Associates.
Michael Abramson, vice president of the Menlo Park, CA-based large-screen display market research firm, says the record quarter growth resulted from multiple factors converging at the same time. “Driving this growth were healthy demand, lower prices, and smaller price gaps between XGA and SVGA products,” he says. “The lower XGA/SVGA premium continues to spark demand for XGA models, which have registered better than 35 percent growth on a year-to-date basis.”
Abramson says that because the projector market is seasonal, numbers are likely to decline in the third and fourth quarters. However, comparing sales in the same quarter year-to-year continues to show steady growth.
