LG Electronics has gotten into the media player business with its new NC1000, a solid-state player that the company says will work with a variety of signage software platforms.

LG Electronics has gotten into the media player business with its new NC1000, a solid-state player that the company says will work with a variety of signage software platforms. It's based on an Intel Atom processor and the Windows Embedded operating system, with an 8GB solid-state hard drive, four USB ports, and a 4-in-1 memory card slot. It outputs HDMI at up to 1080p/60 and also comes with RS-232C, LAN, optical, analog line-out, and SPDIF ports. Like similar players, the NC1000 is meant to replace traditional PCs as digital signage systems and mount near a display. It measures 9.8 x 1.7 x 8.1 inches. Price: Not available.
