VP of AMX Pleads Guilty

David A. Goldenberg, former vice president of AMX Corp., pleaded guilty to felony wiretapping. He is charged with corporate espionage for intercepting thousands of proprietary e-mails from his company's chief competitor, Crestron Electronics, for nearly a year while with AMX.

On May 11, 2009, David A. Goldenberg, former vice president of AMX Corp., pleaded guilty to felony wiretapping. He is charged with corporate espionage for intercepting thousands of proprietary e-mails from his company's chief competitor, Crestron Electronics, for nearly a year while with AMX. The judge has scheduled a sentencing hearing for June 26, 2009, at 10:30 a.m.

Following a six-week investigation, Goldenberg was charged with third-degree unlawful access of a computer system/network, second-degree unlawful access of a computer data/theft of data, and third-degree conducting an illegal wiretap. He was charged by members of the Paramus Police Department (a member of the Computer Crimes Task Force) in New Jersey and released on $50,000 bail.

Crestron's manufacturer's representative, Sapphire Marketing, filed a complaint to the Paramus Police Department in February when they suspected their e-mails were being intercepted after being frequently underbid by AMX for various projects.

Goldenberg allegedly stole thousands of proprietary and confidential e-mails, using social engineering to access Sapphire's mail accounts over a seven-month period. He then arranged for e-mails to be automatically forwarded to his personal account, according to reports.

Prior to working for AMX, Goldenberg was a client of Sapphire's, buying Crestron products. Reportedly, after he was denied employment by Crestron, he was hired by AMX in June 2007 as general manager of its East Coast office. He was promoted to vice president before his arrest.
