SIM2 Beefs Up Grand Cinema Projector Line

SIM2 has added the new C3X Lumis to its Grand Cinema C3X series of video projectors. As one of the series' smallest and highest-performing full HD three-chip projectors, according to the company, the C3X Lumis achieves its picture quality through Texas Instruments' latest 0.95-inch 1080p DLP chipset.

TI's DLP technology gives the C3X Lumis with up to 35,000:1 contrast ratio and 3000 ANSI lumens. The C3X Lumis combines DynamicBlack technology with SIM2's own R&D contributions to deliver improved black-level performance that allows the projector to display highly detailed images during dark scenes, according to the company. SIM2 officials say this is achieved via three components: a user-adjustable iris, DynamicBlack technology, and a new dimmable lamp. The custom-designed dynamic iris uses a nonsymmetric, folded aperture powered by a fast motor placed at the front end of the light path to deter unwanted reflections. DynamicBlack from TI provides the iris with micro-second precision adjustment to the source material on a frame-by-frame bass.

The projector's new AlphaPath light engine offers two key components: a new die-cast aluminum body for improved thermal management of the light engine; and a tapered rod-integrator that the company says is designed to accept the raw light energy from the lamp and convert it into a refined beam of light. It's at this stage that the light from the lamp is converted into a 16:9 aspect ratio before it reaches the DMDs, according to SIM2. According to the company, this new design helps further improve the projector's brightness uniformity and efficiency of light transmission. Three lens options are available.

The C3X Lumis offers two selectable HDMI 1.3 inputs (both HDCP compliant) and inputs for legacy formats such as Component, S-video, and Composite video, as well as an RGB connection. Both RS-232 serial and USB ports are included, and 12-volt trigger outputs and IR-sensor inputs provide flexibility and control.

The C3X Lumis is housed in a high-gloss sculpted cabinet available in a standard gun metal finish or in optional high-gloss black, matte black, high-gloss white, matte white, high-gloss red, and matte red finishes.

SIM2's Grand Cinema C3X Lumis is now shipping with a suggested retail price of $34,995 (T1 and T2 lens) and $36,495 (T3 lens).
