NSCA Debuts New Toolkit Module, EST-L2 Cert

In addition, the association announced that a new EST-L2 certification exam will roll out at InfoComm '09, encompassing subjects beyond AV.

The National Systems Contractors Association (NSCA) has released Part 2 of its Power Marketing Toolkit, "The Power of Public Relations." In addition, the association announced that a new EST-L2 certification exam will roll out at InfoComm '09, encompassing subjects beyond AV.

On the toolkit front, NSCA wants to emphasize that PR goes beyond a good press release to include an evaluation of a company's promotional activities and its ability to influence the media. PR defines a company's image to the public and creates social etiquette at a time when setting a company apart from its competition is necessary for success, according to NSCA.

"Your corporate identity is established with public relations strategies," said Craig Park, vice president and chief marketing officer for Leo A Daly and author of the toolkit, in a statement. "Additionally, managing promotional activities, advertising, and the audiences and methods used to deliver your message are all critical to your PR success."

The second module provides key elements of a PR plan, including four basic rules to follow when working with the media.

"During tough economic times, it's important to increase your PR efforts," said Jodi Montgomery, NSCA senior director of member services, in a statement. "This toolkit will provide you with the necessary tools, such as advertising evaluation matrix, press release design guide, and media advisories; all of which are proven PR strategies."

The updated EST-L2 certification exam will be provided by NSCA University at InfoComm '09 along with the exam's preparation course. There will also be opportunities to obtain Learning Units (LUs) to maintain EST-L2 certification, according to NSCA.

Primarily targeted to technicians, designers, and installers, NSCA's EST-L2 includes traditional AV training as well as cabling, infrastructure, and products that transport voice, video, audio, data signals, and control signals for mechanical and electrical apparatuses.

"Obtaining your EST-L2 certification secures your future in the commercial electronic systems industry," said Chuck Wilson, NSCA executive director. "Receiving training motivates employees to perform well and differentiate themselves from your competition, providing for greater business opportunities."

The NSCA EST-L2 Review will be held Tuesday, June 16, from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. at the Orlando Convention Center. The NSCA EST-L2 Exam will be held on Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Orlando Convention Center. An application must be completed to sit for the exam.
