Meridian Extends SpeakerLink, Links Legacy Products

Meridian Audio, British manufacturer of digital AV systems, extended its SpeakerLink single-cable input/output communications protocol to its flagship Digital Active Loudspeaker, the DSP8000.

Meridian Audio, British manufacturer of digital AV systems, extended its SpeakerLink single-cable input/output communications protocol to its flagship Digital Active Loudspeaker, the DSP8000.

Meridian also introduced a new installation accessory, the AC11, that allows earlier Meridian components, including processors, CD players, and digital loudspeakers, to integrate with the new SpeakerLink system.

According to the company, SpeakerLink uses cost-effective, universally available RJ-45 Ethernet-style twisted-pair network cabling to make all digital audio, communications, and control interconnections between Meridian components.

The AC11 Meridian Component Interlink is a hub that interfaces SpeakerLink components with Meridian legacy models that use DIN and/or BNC Meridian Comms ports and S/PDIF digital audio connections. The AC11 networks a complete system of components and loudspeakers using any of these connections, while further connectivity--such as 12V trigger input, IR out, and RS-232 serial port--provides for further system expansion, and enables integration of non-Meridian elements into the system.

The AC11 Component Interlink is expected to be available in January 2009 with a suggested retail price of $995.
