Magenta Adds to Mondo Matrix Switch

Magenta Research recently introduced the Mondo III-SAP, the next generation of its Mondo Matrix UTP switch.

Magenta Research recently introduced the Mondo III-SAP, the next generation of its Mondo Matrix UTP switch.

Mondo III-SAP supports addressable, full-duplex serial, which is a first for any Magenta switcher. According to officials, the company overcame a technical hurdle by combining with MultiView-SAP receivers, allowing users to extend and switch HD video, stereo audio, and addressable duplex serial up to 2,000 feet on a single cable.

Bi-directional serial communication can be useful in digital signage applications where display telemetry and/or metric collection are required, or when users want verification that commands are received and implemented by the remote receiver/display.

Other features include a front-panel indicator dashboard, dual fans, a replaceable air filter, a backlit 2x16 character LCD with four push buttons for configuration and diagnostics, and a variety of redundancy-driven initiatives designed to make installation, switching, maintenance, and daily use easier.

"The Mondo quickly became the standard for casino, government, and commercial AV switching projects," said Magenta chief scientist Chris Miller, in a statement. "With the added application support that Mondo III provides, we expect it will make ever further inroads into the switching market."

If addressable full-duplex serial functionality (-SAP) is not required, company officials said users can opt for standard Mondo output cards to switch video, audio, and/or simplex serial signals. All Mondo Matrix switches are built in a modular style, in increments of 16 I/Os from 16x16 to 256x512.
