HaiVision Network Video recently appointed Tom Pfeuffer vice president for medical markets. Pfeuffer is responsible for all HaiVision efforts in the medial sector in adopting and deploying encoder and video distribution technology, and in identifying new features and technology required from HaiVision's products. Company officials said he will also lead efforts around industry registrations, compliances, certifications, and necessary interoperability within the sector, including work on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM).

Pfeuffer brings to HaiVision extensive experience within the medical industry, says the company. Most recently, he was the medical market sales director for Rivulet Communications, a company delivering network technology to hospitals. Previously, Pfeuffer held a sales leadership position with GE Healthcare Surgery, managing both direct and channel sales teams.

"HaiVision has been focused on the medical segment since our early work with remote surgery more than five years ago," said Peter Maag, HaiVision's senior vice president, in a statement. "Now, network video is being specified within every major medical project and operating room build-out. The appointment of Tom to vice president, medical markets is indicative of our commitment to and continued investment to this sector."

HaiVision makes products for a secure, end-to-end IP video solution. Based on client/server technology and supporting conditional access, administrators can control and report exact details on whom saw what and when, satisfying a fundamental requirement for HIPAA compliance, the company adds.
