Less than a month after Apple announced its iPad, Crestron has released a download from the iTunes App Store that company officials say will transform the iPad into a Crestron touch panel. According to Crestron, a tap on the upcoming Apple tablet screen will provide real-time control of Crestron AV systems, lighting, shades, room temperatures, and more from any location.

Similar to the iPhone or iPod touch, the Creston-enabled iPad will communicate with a Crestron control system via the 3G, 3GS, or Edge cellular networks, or Wi-Fi.

"Our mobile apps are fully compatible with the iPad, and we're delighted to add the iPad to our selection of Apple-based solutions," said Vincent Bruno, Crestron director of marketing, in a statement.

Other Apple-based Crestron apps include the iServer, an audio server that uses an iPod as its internal hard drive; the XPanel for Mac, which delivers remote access and control of Crestron systems from a connected iMac or MacBook; and iPod docks, which provide the connectivity required to share audio and video throughout a home or office AV system.
