BenQ Brightens Up

BenQ has officially unveiled the shipping version of its new ultra-bright HD DLP projector, the SP920.

BenQ has officially unveiled the shipping version of its new ultra-bright HD DLP projector, the SP920. The new model boasts 6,000 ANSI lumens (lumen output is adjustable) and Texas Instruments' BrilliantColor processing. Company officials said the picture is further enhanced by Osram's UniShape lamp lighting technology and BenQ's proprietary 3D Color Management system and dual-lamp design.

Positioned by the company for corporate, government and education use, the SP920's two 280W lamps output the same 6,000 lumens as other projectors' dual 300W bulbs for 23.5 percent better optical efficiency, according to BenQ. Dual lamps also allow users to extend overall operation life and optimize lumen output according to their applications. For example, Dual Brightest mode calls on all 6,000 lumens for large, high-ambient-light venues such as auditoriums

The SP920 incorporates BenQ's six-segment Golden Ratio color wheel and BrilliantColor chipset to boost brightness up to 50 percent, according to the company, and broaden the traditional color gamut beyond RGB for enhanced whites, blacks and mid-tone hues. Meanwhile Osram's UniShape Lamp Light Technology uses a SP920-customized waveform to adapt lamp output to each color wheel segment, which should better balance brightness and color correction requirements.

The SP920 employs a filter-free design to reduce maintenance and TCO, and it's rated at 2,000 to 4,000 hours of operation life (Dual Brightest to Single Alternative Normal Modes). The new projector also includes HDMI version 1.3 with HDCP, support for security passwords, wall color correction, a presentation timer and splash screen lock, on-screen FAQ, and 5-watt speakers.

The SP920 ships this month. Pricing was not immediately available.
