Earthworks Ships HD Microphone

Earthworks introduced the SR40, 40kHz High Definition Microphone. It features an extended high frequency response, fast impulse response, short diaphragm settling time, a near-perfect cardioid polar pattern, and high rejection of sounds from the rear of the microphone.

Earthworks, a manufacturer of high-definition microphones for recording, live sound, and test/measurement applications, introduced the SR40, 40kHz High Definition Microphone. Company officias say it features an extended high frequency response, fast impulse response, short diaphragm settling time, a near-perfect cardioid polar pattern, and high rejection of sounds from the rear of the microphone.

Earthworks' new SR40 offers a 30Hz to 40kHz frequency response. It also offers a fast impulse response that enables the microphone to acquire fast transients far more accurately.

The SR40's cardioid polar pattern ensures that the microphone will not beam or spotlight and provides significantly more gain before feedback than conventional microphones, according to the company. This polar response facilitates the use of fewer microphones with closer placement to the source, enabling yet additional gain before feedback in live sound applications.

The new SR40 has an acoustic input rating of 145dB SPL. Its rear rejection performance enables the SR40 to easier isolate instruments in a recording or live performance setting, thus minimizing acoustic bleed.

The SR40 comes in a black finish, requires 48-volt phantom power, and has an optional screw-on windscreen. It has an MSRP of $1,295 and is also available in matched pairs at $2,690 MSRP. Both SR40 singles or matched pairs are currently available at authorized Earthworks dealers.
