QSC Launches Active Loudspeaker Series

QSC has introduced the KW Series of active loudspeakers, which builds on the company's K Series of ABS-molded loudspeakers. The KW Series has been engineered to produce the same performance but in a second-generation wooden enclosure.

The KW Series has been engineered to produce the same performance but in a second-generation wooden enclosure. The form factor is consequently more compact and substantially lighter than previous birch enclosure designs, says the company.

Packaged into a new Baltic birch design, the KW Series offers 1000 watts of Class D power modules (2 x 500 watts), a 1.75-inch-high output HF device (in the full-range models), and the DSP featured in the K Series, along with QSC's patented technologies.

The series comprises four models: the KW122 12-inch, two-way, multipurpose loudspeaker; the KW152 15-inch, two-way trapezoidal loudspeaker; the KW 153 15-inch, three-way trapezoidal loudspeaker; and the KW181 18-inch subwoofer.

The system incorporates DEEP and Intrinsic Correction as performance enhancers in the DSP, while DMT (Directivity Matched Transition) ensures uniform coverage across the sound field, says the company. The KW Series also feature GuardRail protection, which the company says prevents the amplifier module from unnatural and destructive clipping. The full-range models also include a four-position mic/line gain switch.

The birch enclosures include tour-grade, 16-guage steel grilles, ergonomic handles, and 35 millimeter pole sockets with Tilt-Direct (on the KW122 and KW152 models). M10 rigging points enable suspended installation of the full-range models, while KW122 can also function as a stage monitor.

The KW122 contains a 12-inch cone transducer and 1.75-inch diaphragm compression driver, with a 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range, maximum SPL of 131 dB (peak), and nominal coverage of 75 degrees axisymmetric. The Kw152 contains a 15-inch cone transducer and 1.75-inch diaphragm compression driver, with a 44 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range, maximum SPL of 133 dB (peak), and nominal coverage of 60 degrees axisymmetric. The KW153 three-way system contains a 15-inch cone transducer, 6.5-inch mid-range, and 1.75-inch diaphragm compression driver, with 33 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range, maximum SPL of 134 dB (peak), and nominal coverage of 75 degrees axisymmetric. Lastly, the KW181 18-inch subwoofer contains an 18-inch cone transducer, with 39 Hz to 145 Hz frequency range and maximum SPL of 132 dB (peak).

The new KW Series is expected to begin shipping in summer 2010.
