Sharp Electronics recently unveiled the LE700 Aquos LED, an LCD TV series that provides lower power consumption than average LCD TVs, combining Sharp's Aquos LCD technology will a full-array LED backlight system.

The LE700 series also includes Sharp's Aquos Net capability, a service that gives users access to customized Web-based content as well as real-time customer support.

"We are bringing consumers an affordable display solution with superior picture and environmental performance that provides a true value," said Bob Scaglione, senior vice president and group manager of the Product and Marketing Group at Sharp Electronics, in a statement. "Sharp is able to deliver a price-competitive yet high-performance product by producing many of the key components of the TV, including the LED components and the LCD panel."

The Aquos LED system incorporates Sharp's UltraBrilliant LED backlight technology, which includes a full array of LEDs evenly dispersed behind the diffuser, resulting in more uniform colors and brightness across the screens, as well as improved color purity, according to the company. The series uses Sharp's 1080p X-Gen LCD panel with 10-bit processing, Spectral Contrast Engine MC for a dynamic contrast ratio of more than 2,000,000:1, and a de-judder feature on the 52- and 46-inch models that results in a smooth reproduction of film content.

The series also employs Sharp's Fine Motion Enhanced technology for 120 Hz frame-rate conversion and a pixel response time of 4 milliseconds.

Available models come in 52-, 46-, 40-, and 32-inch screen-class sizes (LC-52LE700UN, LC-46LE700UN, LC-40E700UN, and LC-32LE700UN, respectively). The LC-52LE700UN consumes 105 watts, exceeding the EPA's EnergyStar 3.0 criteria for TVs of its size by 68 percent; the LC-46LE700UN consumes 90 watts; the LC-40LE700U consumes 75 watts; and the LC-32LE700UN consumes 55 watts.

The TVs are also equipped with a system designed to lower power consumption during use by adjusting the screen brightness based on the level of brightness in the area of installation.

The four models are scheduled to be available this month: LC-52LE700UN for $2,800 MSRP; LC-46LE700UN for $2,200 MSRP; LC-40LE700UN for $1,700 MSRP; and LC-32LE700UN for $1,200 MSRP.
