AMX announced that veteran sales and marketing executive John Hanby has been named vice president of government sales, reporting to AMX vice president of U.S. sales and global marketing Walk Megura. Hanby will lead strategic sales and business development initiatives designed to expand AMX's presence in the government market.

Hanby has more than 20 years of experience in business development and sales, concentrated in Department of Defense (DoD), civilian government, intelligence, and global corporate accounts while serving in senior leadership positions with companies such as Dell, Lockheed Martin, and TRW. At AMX, Hanby will apply his industry expertise to help develop the company's recently formed government sales unit, forge strategic business partnerships, and expand sales to federal, state, and local agencies.

Before joining AMX, Hanby was vice president of global, government, and education sales for Austin, Tex.-based PGi, where he established key partnerships. Prior to that, he served in various senior leadership roles at Dell, rising to the position of director of sales. During his tenure there, Hanby led the DoD and intelligence sales team from $145 million to $1.1 billion in annual sales in less than three years.

"Over the years, AMX has built a strong reputation in the government market as a leading supplier of robust, innovative platforms supporting, command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, and information operations," said Hanby in a statement. "AMX is in a very unique position, as a convergence is occurring between traditional IT infrastructure and AV solutions. This offers AMX extraordinary growth potential."

"John is a seasoned veteran and is going to make an excellent leader of AMX's new organizational structure dedicated to the deployment of technology solutions for the various government agencies," said Megura in a statement. "John's experience in the government arena and track record in identifying and driving new business opportunities will enable AMX to capitalize on the explosive demand for secure, leading-edge technologies in the sector."
