NuVo Technologies, which makes whole-home audio systems, has begun shipping the D460 Digital Power Amplifier, the latest in its list of energy-efficient components. Operating four channels at 60W each while utilizing less power than a 60W light bulb, according to company officials, the D460 Digital Power Amplifier can be used in a variety of installations. It complements NuVo's Grand Concerto and Essentia whole-home audio systems and is also compatible with third-party equipment.

"The D460's combination of four 60W amplifiers in a 1U space, high efficiency both in operation and in standby, and superb audio quality make it an ideal choice for many applications," said Rick Kukulies, chief technology officer for NuVo, in a statement. "The D460 is the ideal amplifier for powering zones 7 and 8 for Concerto or adding power to Essentia."

The D460 offers selectable 4- or 8-ohm impedance and is engineered to use only 0.35W in standby mode and 50W in typical use. NuVo officials said it's well suited to homes with larger rooms and outdoor applications. The compact unit weighs just 6.6 pounds and uses a single-rack space.
