The NSCA Education Foundation announced it will award up to 10 $1,000 scholarships to students interested in a career in the commercial electronic systems industry. The scholarships are intended to assist students with the rising costs of education and be applied to tuition in college or a technical school program.

According to NSCA, the next generation of system integrators in the commercial electronic systems industry is finding a variety of technologies and applications to apply a degree to, including but not limited to, acoustics, audio, automation and control systems, AV, communications, data networks, digital signage, information technology, interactive display, life safety, lighting, telephony, and video.

"NSCA Education Foundation scholarships provide individuals interested in the commercial electronics industry with the means to get started with a broad-based, practical, and theoretical education," said Tom Frericks, president of the Foundation Board, in a statement.

Applicants must be high school seniors or college students with at least a 2.0 GPA, pursuing a career in electronic systems. The award may be used for tuition at any accredited, post-secondary institution. Applications are due June 12, 2009, and announcements will be made by July 12, 2009.

NSCA officials say the U.S. Department of Labor predicts the telecommunications industry, which comprises the work of electronic systems technicians or other low-voltage commercial and residential electronic systems, as one of the areas of growth over the next five years.
