Sony's New Ziris Software Manages Up to 5,000 Screens
Sony rolled out its new Ziris digital signage system. The Web-based system provides signage managers with a simple way to control their display content from anywhere via the Internet and Ziris applications. Users can create display campaigns, view delivery in real time, and manage five to 5,000 screens from a dashboard.
Sony rolled out its new Ziris digital signage system at Digital Signage Expo 2010. Company officials said Ziris is a solution for brand marketers and other professionals with complex needs for providing digital-out-of-home (DOOH) content. The Web-based system provides signage managers with a simple way to control their display content from anywhere via the Internet and Ziris applications. Users can create display campaigns, view their delivery in real time, and manage five to 5,000 screens from the Ziris dashboard, according to Sony.
"As digital signage displays evolve beyond electronic billboards to incorporate many of the strengths of the Internet, signage network managers welcome the dynamic and interactive nature of the medium, but need a uniform and user-friendly way to harness the power of the digital sign," said Andre Floyd, marketing manager for Sony's digital signage and public displays, in a statement. "Ziris is designed to address these needs."
According to the company, a Ziris system can connect directly to a number of Sony display devices, plug-in signage adapters, and PC-based signage players. Ziris Create integrates all of a user's digital signage content, scheduling delivery and serving the content where and when a user desires. Static or dynamic, Flash or HTML, multicast video network streams or live TV, Ziris Create offers numerous possibilities to bring content to DOOH campaigns.
The Ziris module acts like an ad server, says the company, allowing users to store campaign assets and then play the content on connected displays according to pre-defined schedules. With several setup options, Ziris fits almost every network architecture and connects via LAN or WAN, enabling both push and pull network workflows, the company says.
Ziris Manage helps users keep track of all play-out devices, public displays, and possibly other Sony professional devices on a network from anywhere via the Internet. The module displays a diagram of the network structure and gives a view of all Sony software applications and hardware devices within the signage network. Enabling users to monitor the current status of all devices in real time, Ziris shows the current item being played back, status of the displays, and more.
Additionally, says the company, Ziris Manage is able to generate status reports of all play-out devices, specifying content delivered and metrics related to when and where content is effectively shown. These reports are integral to campaign optimization by offering insight into efficacy and raising flags on issues that may need immediate attention.
