Extron Ships Converter, Expands SMX System

Extron Electronics announced the ISM SC 824 computer-to-video scan converter board and its new SMX matrix boards. The ISM SC simplifies system design for applications that require a standard definition video output for distribution to televisions, videoconferencing systems, or video recorders. The SMX System MultiMatrix is for applications that require the switching of different signal types and a cost-effective upgrade path for ongoing I/O or signal format changes.

Extron Electronics has announced the immediate availability of its ISM SC 824 computer-to-video scan converter board and its new SMX matrix boards. According to the company, the ISM SC simplifies system design for applications that require a standard definition video output for distribution to televisions, videoconferencing systems, or video recorders. Meanwhile the SMX System MultiMatrix is well suited for use in applications that require the switching of different signal types and a cost-effective upgrade path for ongoing I/O or signal format changes.

The ISM SC converts high-resolution RGB or HDTV Component video signals to NTSC or PAL Composite video, S-video, or Component video signals. It also accepts low-resolution video as pass-through signals, and can transcode Composite video, S-video, and Component video input signals to match the selected scan converted output format.

The ISM 824 MultiSwitcher matrix switcher allows for simultaneous video and RGB scaling plus wideband switching in a single, compact enclosure. According to the company, it combines the signal routing capabilities of an eight-input, eight-output, wideband matrix switcher with the versatility of four customizable outputs. The ISM 824 can be equipped with any available scaling or scan conversion output boards for initial project requirements, then upgraded in the future with additional boards as system needs evolve.

Extron's new 4x4 multirate SDI matrix board and two new 16x16 4-Gbps fiber optic matrix boards work with the company's SMX System MultiMatrix, a modular, field-configurable matrix switching platform. The new boards bring the total number of available Extron SMX matrix boards to 41.

The SMX MultiRate Serial Digital Matrix Switcher Boards are designed for routing multirate SDI and HD-SDI serial digital video signals from 19 Mbps to 2.97 Gbps. The boards are compliant with the SMPTE 424M standard for 3G-SDI; and, according to the company, two boards can be used together to switch SMPTE 372M dual-link HD-SDI digital video signals. Available sizes include: 4x4, 8x4, 8x8, and 16x16.
