The U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) called on Audio Video Systems (AVS) to modernize its 33 schools and education centers at 16 Army installations. Due to the sheer number of classrooms involved, AVS designed a pair of standard, repeatable systems: the Basic Instructor Presentation System, which typically includes a dual-screen front-projection setup, 65-inch LCDs, an interactive whiteboard, and multizone in-ceiling speakers for sound reinforcement; and the Enhanced Instructor Presentation System, which adds digital workstations for more interactivity, larger and brighter projection systems (some with blending), and, in some cases, videoconferencing.
Each site had unique needs, such as the Army Logistics University at Fort Lee, Va., with 54 classrooms, each divisible into two. AVS installed 108 basic systems with whiteboards, plus audio and control systems programmed to operate in separate or combined modes. At Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., AVS integrated a motion detection system into 27 classrooms that tied into the control system and could power the equipment on and off as appropriate. All told, AVS has installed more than 220 complete systems nationwide.
