Digital recording microphone
HHB responded to broadcaster requests by expanding its FlashMic Digital Recording Microphone range with the DRM85-LI (shown) and the DRM85-CLI. The new models are line-input equipped versions of the DRM85 omni-directional and DRM85-C cardioid FlashMics, which allow users to record feeds. Both new mics feature a bantam TT jack input on the base of the body. An XLR-to-bantam jack cable is included; when connected, it switches out the microphone signal and records only the line-input signal. Another development is MP3 file compatibility. FlashMic PCM or MP2 recordings can now be converted into MP3 while transferring from the FlashMic to a computer via the supplied FlashMic Manager Mac/PC software. Price: $1,499 each. For more information, see HHB at Booth #418/Demo Room #2D01, or contact the company at 860-434-9190 or www.hhb.co.uk.
The engineers at Acoustic Transducer Company (ATC) have innovated drive unit technology, resulting in the increased performance of their SCM16A active nearfield monitor. ATC's new Constrained Layer Dampening (CLD) technology solves the issues of poor off-axis frequency response and high-Q resonance without making the loudspeaker less efficient. CLD uses two lightweight driver cones to sandwich a constrained dampening layer instead of the conventional dampening used because of how it shears adjacent cone sections when the cone flexes, according to the company. Unwanted vibration energy dissipates as frictional heat, reducing harmonic distortion between 300Hz and 3kHz. The SCM16A also includes a neodymium 25mm soft dome tweeter and an upgraded on-board amplifier pack that provides 200 watts to the mid/bass driver and 50 watts to the HF driver. Price: $3,995/pair powered. For more information, see ATC at NYC Demo Room #3D01, or contact the company at www.atc.gb.net.

Lectrosonics introduces a two-channel slot-mount Digital Hybrid Wireless diversity receiver. The SR receiver offers two independent channels that can feed separate inputs or be mixed internally to feed a single input. The splash-resistant receiver fits into the standard video slot on professional cameras. The SR offers two diversity modes. SmartDiversity reception independently combines antenna phase for each receiver channel, while the true diversity ratio mode uses two channels together as a single receiver. Graphic spectrum scanning provides the location of clear operating frequencies for interference-free operation. The two receivers in the SR offer 256 frequencies each in one of nine available blocks, and use the Lectrosonics 400 Series transmitters. Compatibility modes also enable operation with Lectrosonics 100 Series, 200 Series, and IFB analog systems, plus analog transmitters from two other manufacturers. Price: $3,300. For more information, see Lectrosonics at Booth #642, or contact the company at 800-821-1121 or www.lectrosonics.com.
Powered portable line array loudspeakers
JBL Professional adds power to its VRX Series of portable line arrays with the VRX932LAP 12-inch powered loudspeaker and the VRX918SP 18-inch powered subwoofer. Both use the JBL DrivePack DPC-2 amplification system, which provides 1,750 watts of peak power in the loudspeaker and 1,500 watts in the sub-woofer. The VRX932LAP (shown) is designed for arrays of up to five units and features JBL's 2408J Annular Ring Diaphragm HF driver technology. The Constant Curvature Waveguide mounts three compression drivers on a continuous arc, which remains uninterrupted as loudspeakers are added. The model also uses “amplitude shading” to shape the coverage of the array, allowing more output to reach the far balconies while the lower box is shaded back to reduce levels up front. The subwoofer is a powered system containing a 2268FF neodymium magnet patented Differential Drive woofer in a front-loaded, vented enclosure. A DSP-based resident input module provides system optimization, EQ, and crossover functionality. Pricing: N/A.
