Polycom Intros New SoundStation, Gets DoD Cert
Polycom has announced the release of its SoundStation IP 5000 conference phone, which features Polycom HD Voice and offers SIP-based VoIP interoperability at a price the company says is within reach of most organizations.
Polycom has announced the release of its SoundStation IP 5000 conference phone, which features Polycom HD Voice and offers SIP-based VoIP interoperability at a price the company says is within reach of most organizations. Polycom also announced it has received Unified Capabilities Approved Product List (UC APL) certification from the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for the Polycom RMX 2000, a scalable multipoint conferencing platform for HD telepresence, audio, and video conferencing.
The SoundStation IP 5000 is designed for private offices and small meeting rooms. It leverages the Polycom Open Collaboration Network, allowing businesses to use existing unified communications systems investments as well as tightly integrated, end-to-end, standards-based solutions that deliver an unrivaled communications experience. In addition to HD voice technology, the SoundStation IP 5000 includes Polycom Acoustic Clarity technology, a high-resolution display, and built-in resistance to interference from mobile phones and other wireless devices.
The Polycom SoundStation IP 5000 conference phone will be available through certified Polycom resellers at an MSRP of $599. It's scheduled to begin shipping next month.
Regarding the RMX 2000 certification, vice president of Polycom Federal Barry Morris said in a statement, "Certification of the Polycom RMX 2000 will enable our U.S. Federal customers to expand and improve the efficiency of information sharing in secure environments, so that well-informed decisions can be made."
UC APL, as tested by the Joint Interoperability Test Command, applies to every DoD IT and National Security System to ensure that Combatant Commander, Services, and Agency systems can interoperate securely in joint, combined, and coalition environments.
