Miami Vein Center reaches out with videoconferencing

Videoconferencing brought remote surgical imaging to the International Vein Congress held in Miami this May. A large group of surgeons took advantage of a special video link that connected the conference location at the the Sonesta Beach Hotel in Key Biscayne, Florida with the Miami Vein Center, a leading vascular medicine and surgery center, to learn the latest techniques in vein care. Using a combination of didactic and live case demonstrations is the optimium platform for advanced learning.
Board certified vascular surgeon Jose I. Almeida, MD, FACS performed a variety of cutting-edge procedures to cure venous disease live from the Miami Vein Center. The procedures were broadcast to 400 doctors viewing the live data and video feeds at the the conference resort.
Many new techniques and educational benefits were presented. As a leader in his field, Dr. Almeida is dedicated to teaching other surgeons the latest techniques, including endovenous vein therapy, a technique he helped pioneer. Endovenous vein therapy is a safe, non-surgical, virtually pain-free procedure to eradicate varicose veins. This procedure is safely performed in the office environment with local anesthesia without the need for hospitalization.
Dr. Almeida is a founder of Miami Vein Center and a dedicated teacher of the new procedures.
Dr. Almeida also demonstrated cutaneous laser and sclerotherapy treatments for spider veins, and radiofrequency and phlebectomy treatments for varicose veins that were videocast. These specialized vascular procedures were broadcast onto large screen TVs at the conference location to provide the widest outreach. Without videoconferencing, only a small group of surgeons would be able to witness the procedures locally due to a lack of space.
Interest was so high in the three-day interactive surgical training event that the specialized surgical content was broadcast over satellite to remote sites and webcast to 5000 streams on the World Wide Web. Complete Conference Management of Miami hosted the event in conjunction with Accurate Video Services of Boca Raton, Florida, which provided specialized videoconferencing services.
