Calvary Chapel Offers Language Interpretation with Listen Technologies

Calvary Chapel of Salt Lake City, Utah, is reaching out to its Hispanic neighbors by providing realtime language interpretation of its services using a wireless audio system from Listen Technologies Corporation. Using a Listen wireless personal receiver, Spanish-speaking congregants can listen to "La Palabra Buena" (the Good Word) being interpreted by a couple of bi-lingual volunteers who take turns interpreting the services.
Jim Harris, the church administrator, says, "We are pleased with how easy it is to use and how well it works. The system has integrated really well into our existing sound system." He says that the personal receivers enable churchgoers to sit wherever they want and still hear the interpretation clearly, rather than sitting in a specified section next to an interpreter.
In addition to language interpretation, Calvary Chapel is able to use its Listen equipment for outdoor activities. By adding a Listen stationary transmitter to its equipment, it also provides auditory assistance for hearing impaired members who have the same personal receivers as the Spanish speakers.
Harris shared that while Calvary Chapel was trying out Listen, a couple entered the church and the wife needed language interpretation. Although the woman had not attended services in more than a year, she hasn't missed a Sunday since because she can understand the services.
"Calvary Chapel is a great example of how using the right equipment can make a world of difference to its congregants," says Listen Vice President of Sales and Marketing Cory Schaeffer. "We are excited to hear how well their members are responding to the technology."
