Meyer Sound has pushed the power-to-size ratio to a new level with the UPJunior UltraCompact VariO loudspeaker. Weighing only 28lbs. and standing a mere 19in. high, the premium birch plywood enclosure combines an 8in. cone with a 2in. compression driver to deliver up to 126dB SPL. The unit incorporates a 2-channel, Class AB/bridged 300W power amplifier, and it can be flown, arrayed, and used as a stage monitor.
New from Mipro is the MA-505 portable wireless PA system with up to four wireless mics with diversity receivers, and it’s the company’s first one with built-in Bluetooth. The cabinet contains a Class-D amplifier that drives a two-way speaker system through a limiter protection circuit. The unit has an integral digital audio player and can include an optional CD player. There is a balanced XLR mic input, 3.5mm line output, and a DC power socket.
Innovative design is a hallmark of the Peavey Escort 6000 portable PA system. All of its components are integrated into a single, roadworthy compact box. Packed with digital multi-effects, USB MP3 player, Peavey’s Midmorph technology, and the FLS (feedback locating system), the Escort 6000 includes a 600W amp, seven inputs with RCA/3.5 TRS combination connectors, USB MP3 playback, subwoofer output, monitor send, two folding speaker stands, seven-band EQ, and much more.
The PreSonus StudioLive series consists of three full-range systems and a subwoofer. A favorite in this group is the StudioLive 315AI, a three-way tri-amped system with 90˚x60˚ nominal coverage and a 2000W Class-D amplifier. The unit has one mic level and one line level input with phantom power available on the mic channel. The enclosure contains a 15in. Ferrite LF transducer, an 8in. CoActual MF transducer, and a 1.75in. compression driver. There are DSP presets, high-pass filter, network connection, Wi-Fi, and signal, clip, limit, and thermal indicators.
The KW153 from QSC is a three-way powered system that teams a 15in. woofer with a 6.5in midrange woofer and a 1.75in. diaphragm compression driver to produce 134dB peak SPL and cover an angle of 75 degrees. All models in the KW series have a 1000W Class-D power module, and the KW153’s extensive DSP allows recording studio features to hit the road. Energy management features include automatic standby mode.
A proven favorite in systems from RCF is the combination of the NX L24-A active two-way array with the SUB 8004-AS with its powerful 18in. subwoofer. Attached with the pole-mount kit NXL 24-A, these two components can provide installation-quality sound in a road setup. The NX L24-A uses an integral 1400W amp with DSP, and when coupled with the self-powered SUB 8004-AS, the punch goes down to 30Hz.
Renkus-Heinz has the RH/RHX Series speaker enclosures as a build-to-order system with a dual-wedge-angle design and a variety of mounting options. The RH versions in the line are self-powered with two- or three-way amplifier modules that include onboard DSP and four factory presets. The RHX variants are the non-powered models. The RH/RHX speakers range from under-balcony applications all the way to main house and floor monitoring.
