Creation of Nonprofit Fellowship of Technical Ministries Announced
May 5, 2005 6:01 PM
AV industry veteran Greg Silsby announced the formation of a new nonprofit, non-denominational association of media technicians involved in churches and related ministries. "The Fellowship of Technical Ministries (FTM) is a logical response to highly recognized needs accompanying the adoption of today's media technology by the religious community," Silsby states.
By growing an international network of local chapters, and with the cooperation of industry, FTM will help to facilitate education, personal growth, and communications. "The primary focus of FTM is on improving the service of those responsible for operating audio, video, lighting, and computer systems, with an emphasis on skills enhancement and personal growth. At the same time," Silsby points out, "FTM affords the AV industry unique opportunities to get close to the customerto communicate effectively with equipment operators and decision makers in this incredibly large market segment."
As with similar professional society models, found in broadcast engineering and other user segments, the Fellowship of Technical Ministries members will benefit from meeting regularly, on a local basis, with people who have common principles, purposes, and problems. "FTM is a support mechanism," according to Silsby, "so we are not in competition with systems integrators, equipment sellers, consultants, magazines, or training organizations. Instead, we want to bring our members a better knowledge of those resources that exist and offer growth opportunities for all involved. Our objective is to create a true win-win situation."
