Calypso's ION controller series features Calypso's c_Link protocol, which enables use of standard programs and platforms, such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Word and Windows desktop icons, as control interface tools.

Calypso Control Systems has announced the introduction of its ION series of pro AV device controllers. ION controllers offer various combinations of serial, input, relay, and IR inputs and outputs that scale to fit easily into smaller, well-defined controller applications. Like Calypso’s flagship Pro I/O controller, ION controllers are built upon Calypso’s integrated event database architecture and patent-pending c_Link (control hyperlink) protocol.

Calypso’s event database architecture replaces control logic programming with a web-driven process that defines input “triggers” and output “actions,” which consist simply of target device protocols. The result is faster development, lower costs, and little or no training for AV technicians. The c_Link protocol enables use of standard programs and platforms, such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Word and Windows desktop icons, as control interface tools. Calypso’s onboard web server can also be used to serve control interface web pages directly to standard browser applications on PCs, laptops, and handheld devices.

Initial ION configurations include ION-e: one serial, four IR out, two IR in, two relay, two input, Ethernet, and IR learning; ION-4s: four serial and Ethernet; ION-8i: eight general purpose inputs (GPI), one serial, and Ethernet; ION-16i: 16 general purpose inputs (GPI), one serial, and Ethernet.

“While our Pro I/O controller is a great general purpose tool, we recognize the need to offer controllers that scale to fit into more specific applications, especially as pro AV markets broaden, demanding open systems, greater simplicity, and lower costs,” says David H. Parish, president of Calypso. “The ION series provides AV dealers with a range of useful options, while retaining all of the characteristics that makes Calypso products easier to configure, deploy, and support.”
