PacketHop has announced the PacketHop Communication System 3.0, which includes new system components that enable mobile users—such as first responders and private security officers—to access and securely share video from surveillance systems. This new capability provides greater situational awareness, enables users to safely plan and execute responses, and improves facility protection. Version 3.0 will be used by first responders, private security and government agencies, schools, ports, public transportation departments, hotels/resorts, and airports.

The public and private video surveillance markets are increasingly adopting Internet Protocol (IP)-based digital network surveillance systems. "Worldwide digital network camera shipments are forecasted to reach 6.2 million by 2011, with a 62.8 percent compound annual growth rate,” says Christopher Chute, IDC research manager, in a research report titled "Worldwide Network Camera 2007 - 2011 Forecast.” "Internet protocol-based video delivers enhanced video capabilities, significant cost savings and enables more efficient and robust deployments and use-case scenarios.”

Version 3.0 uses PacketHop's DynaMesh technology, which delivers three times the performance of multicast video compared to standard 802.11 wireless networks, to support more robust wireless video surveillance deployments.

Version 3.0 enables public agencies and private enterprises to quickly and cost-effectively deploy wireless video surveillance systems in areas that were previously too difficult or expensive to cover.
