Westinghouse Digital Announces It’s One of the Top Five LCD TV Companies

Westinghouse Digital Electronics announced its market position as one of the top five LCD TV companies in North America.*

“Westinghouse Digital has become one of the top five sellers of LCD TVs in the U.S.,” says Riddhi Patel, senior analyst at iSuppli. “The company has successfully executed its strategy of introducing TVs into the market that meet consumers’ needs for innovative and high-quality products from a brand they can trust.”

As reported in Consumer Electronics Daily, Dec. 29, 2005, “Through November the top five LCD TV brands accounted for 65% of unit sales headed by Sharp (23%) and followed by Magnavox (13%), Samsung (11%), Sony (10%), and Westinghouse (8%), according to NPD.” In addition, as noted in iSuppli’s Television Systems Market Tracker Q4 2005, Westinghouse Digital was ranked number five among branded LCD TVs behind Sharp, Philips, Sony, and Samsung.

The Westinghouse LTV-27w2 LCD TV and LVM-37w1 LCD video monitor were the number one-sellers in their categories in the United States through November 2005 and the LTV-32w1 was a category leader.*

In addition to LCD TVs, Westinghouse Digital also offers HDTV/DVD combos, HD 1080p monitors, HD-grade computer monitors, and digital photo frames through consumer electronics retailers nationwide.

“Our leadership in the market demonstrates our commitment to our consumers and their trust and satisfaction in our products,” says Richard Houng, CEO of Westinghouse Digital Electronics. “In addition to TVs, Westinghouse Digital is a leader in the consumer electronics industry, bringing to market a broad range of innovative LCD products that are preferred for digital content delivery—from one to 56 inches.” According to iSuppli, worldwide LCD-TV shipments are expected to rise to 76.6 million units in 2009, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 47.2 percent from 8.9 million units in 2004. In 2005, shipments were expected to grow to 19.6 million units, up 122% percent from 2004.

“LCD-TVs have experienced faster-than-expected shipments due to increased consumer acceptance and declining prices,” Patel says. “Furthermore, panel makers are expanding their production capacities to fuel demand and encourage greater adoption.”
