Having the right tech furniture item not only makes the job easier, but it also works to limit operator fatigue and impresses clients. Today’s selection makes it easy to fit any space and accommodate any combination of AV technical gear with cable management, easy power availability, and maintenance access. Advances in construction, modularity, and ergonomic design have left the old blocks and boards way behind.
The award-winning GV20 workstation workstation from Argosy Console is based on modular configuration and designed to make the most of both rackmount and desktop hardware components. The console width, depth, and the slope of the rack openings are selectable with the various component options made from 19mm and 32mm MDF. The modules include steel leg supports and padded arm rests with internal steel support bars. The well-ventilated sections allow a versatile range of customized assembly styles for many applications.
Avteq designed the RPS1000L/LE videoconferencing cart to offer a choice of two rack depths. The RPS1000L is 12in. deep and the RPS 1000LE is 15.5in. deep. Both support dual displays up to 65in. and offer an 8RU 19in. rackmount bracket, six-port APC surge protector, M-Audio PSM-200 speaker module, and an integrated adjustable camera shelf. The platform is equipped with 5in. dual wheel casters, two of which have brakes. On the front is a tinted locking glass door, and the unit offers ample ventilation and includes cable management features.
The TC15SAFF welded cabinet presentation cart from Bretford Manufacturing provides a lower cabinet with 19in. rackmount rails, two pull-out shelves for more frequently accessed equipment and a top shelf. The two side pull-out shelves nearly double the work surface, and the TC15SAFF includes a surge-protected 12-outlet electrical assembly with power switch and a 20ft. three-conductor power cable. The 4in. diameter casters are mar-resistant hard black rubber, and each caster has ball-bearing swivel capability. Two have locking brakes. The 16RU bottom section locks, and the unit features all steel construction.
ClearOne offers the Titan Articulating Arm Dual Plasma Cart with monitor folding capability for easy transportation, including the ability to fit through doors and into standard elevators. The unit’s universal mounting system can hold two 42in to 50in. plasma or LCD displays, and the mounting arms can support up to 200lbs. The all-steel construction provides the ability to support up to 800lbs. in equipment. The assembly includes a 9RU equipment rack that is 22in. deep with back panel access. The equipment section has a removable vented front panel, and the unit’s casters are rated for 220lbs. each.
The RA-200 rolling rack from Exact Furniture is the 20RU bigger brother of the 16RU RA-160 with the same furniture-grade laminate, edge-banding construction, and impact-resistant T-molding on the top and bottom. The cabinet has 4in. casters and a locking, removable rear panel for equipment and cabling access. The front side features a locking, tinted Plexiglas door, and the optional internal rack rails can be replaced with shelves. Other options include a wooden front door, ventilation panels, an internal fan, 3in. or 5in. casters, and custom speaker or control panel cutouts.
The Extron Retractor from Extron Electronics is a unique, patent-pending cable retraction and management system designed to work with new or previously installed Cable Cubby enclosures. The Retractor provides discreet, convenient access to AV cables, improving the management of cables within the Cable Cubby. The Retractor is available in versions to support most signal types including VGA, network, PC audio, USB, DVI, or HDMI. It is engineered with a robust, dual-pulley mechanism controlled by a constant-tension spring that can withstand frequent use. Each Retractor module includes a preloaded, continuous 10ft. cable and a 5ft. pigtail for ease of installation.
With a mahogany wood veneer finish and solid wood molding, the 8447-X57 multimedia lectern from Forbes-AV includes a dual-intensity work light that illuminates a slanted work surface with a monitor well for easy visibility and efficient use. Also featured are customizable equipment cut outs on the surface for drop-ins and sliding keyboard and document camera drawers on the user’s side. Locking pocket doors open to ample storage space and one bay with a rack system. Two concealed access doors on the front of the unit allow for easy access to wiring of inner components. Included are furniture levelers and two cutouts in the bottom for cable management.
For nonlinear editing and graphics, the Soho Signature Series Premier from Forecast Consoles offers a 72in. wide work area with a 24.25in. depth and a rear extrusion for option mounting. The unit is available in a range of finishes including a laminate or linoleum counter and black or vinyl wood edges. The keyboard support is slung under the front edge, and a computer fits on the side—out of the way of operator legs and feet. Multiple monitor mounting arms extend upward from the rear section, and each side is topped with a small speaker platform. The unit is designed with Forecast Consoles MASTERail technology for easy assembly and modular flexibility.
The infinitely customizable 95-TECHB-000 Technical Workbench from Hergo Ergonomic Support Systems stands 84in. high and 72in. wide with three 11GA metal base frames, a high-pressure laminated desktop, two telescopic support uprights, three vertical cable-management raceways, and six gliders. Options include a light assembly; tool trolley; peg, cork, and whiteboards; book and mounting shelves; storage bin rail mount; power and cable management; articulating keyboard tray; and flatpanel monitor arm solutions. Additional frame sizes are available.
